Plans, develops, manages and improves mountain and shoreline trails and accesses throughout the state. Conserves environmental and cultural heritage. Installs signs denoting interpretive information and hazards. Develops cooperative agreements with private landowners to open trails over private land. Researches and identifies old government roads and traditionally used historic trails. Researches and records trail and access characteristics used by the public. Posts information about trails and locations online at www.hawaiitrails.org Distributes maps of trails and public access locations. Publish Hiking Safely in Hawaii brochure (available in pdf form).
