Eligibility

Kauai residents diagnosed with a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of six months or less.

Application process

Referrals can be made by anyone via walk-in, telephone, fax or email. A staff person will do a follow-up assessment.

Fees

There are no out of pocket costs to hospice patients and families. Hospice care is a benefit of Medicare and most other private insurance companies. No one is turned away regardless of ability to pay.

Provides support and comfort care through a combination of in-home nursing and an extensive network of support services. Focuses on controlling pain, managing symptoms, providing comfort, dignity and quality of life when the quantity of life may be limited. Deals with the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual impact of the disease on the patient, the patient's family and significant others.

Kaua‘i Hospice was founded in 1983 by volunteers who saw Kaua`i’s need for the provision of compassionate care for patients who faced life-threatening illnesses. Since then, Kaua‘i Hospice has developed into a professionally staffed, Medicare and Medicaid certified organization with a supportive cadre of about 80 specially trained program volunteers and hundreds of general community volunteers. The mission of Kaua‘i Hospice is to ensure the highest quality of life possible for individuals and their families facing a life-threatening illness; to provide bereavement support to individuals, and to promote an understanding of Hospice services. Kaua‘i Hospice is the only hospice on the Garden Island.
