Facilitates the development of a desirable living environment through dialogue with the community and the application of professional planning principles. Serves as the technical advisor to the mayor, council and planning commissions on all planning and related matters. Recommends revisions to the general plan at least every ten years to guide the development of the county. Prepares and enforces zoning ordinances, zoning maps and regulations and any amendments or modifications there to. Provides the services necessary to meet the objective and policies of the Hawaii Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Program, to administer all developments and activities within the Special Management Area (SMA). Processes permits for special uses, County special uses, changes in zoning, district boundary review and other permits requiring zoning. Continually reviews planning concepts and documents through discussions with the public, policy makers, public service agencies, landowners and County boards and commissions.
