Enforces federal wage and hour statutes including Fair Labor Standards Act, Wage Garnishment, Employee Polygraph Protection Act, Immigration Reform and Control Act, Service Contract Act, Family and Medical Leave Acts, Davis Bacon Act, various "Whistle Blower" Acts, Public Contract Acts and others. Enforces laws concerned with child labor, overtime, prevailing wages and fringe benefits, farm labor employee protection, etc. Majority of employees in Hawaii may be covered by one or more of these laws.
Enforcement responsibility is similar to that of the Wage Standards Division of the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
