(DPP) The Department of Planning and Permitting coordinates Honolulu's long range planning and community planning efforts; prepares, maintains, and administers zoning, subdivision, building, and environmental protection ordinances, rules and regulations, amendments, and revisions. Establishes review procedures for land use, subdivision, and building applications. Hears and determines petitions for varying the application of the zoning ordinance. Oversees all functions of land use policy planning and implementation. The Zoning Board of Appeals hears and determines appeals from action of the Director of Planning and Permitting, in the administration of zoning and subdivision ordinances and regulations. The Design Advisory Committee advises the department on design issues related to major project proposals in special districts. The Building Board of Appeals hears and determines appeals from action of the Director of Planning and Permitting in the administration of Building, Electrical, and Plumbing Codes.
